Kano State Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has called on members of the APC in the state to shun anything capable of truncating democracy and the forthcoming general elections, warning that doing that would stagnate progress and development.
The governor spoke while inaugurating the Kano State APC Governorship Campaign Council yesterday, saying Kano would continue to be an APC State no matter the situation.
Ganduje urged members of the campaign council and those of the committees to justify the confidence reposed in them by working hard to ensure the victory of the party in the forthcoming elections.
He announced two new campaign initiatives which would enable the APC achieve a resounding victory in the 2023 elections.
He described the APC governorship candidate, Dr Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna and his running mate, Hon.Murtala Sule Garo, as a winning team that would coast to victory in the 2023 elections.
Earlier, Dr Gawuna commended Ganduje for providing good leadership.
In his remarks, the state APC chairman, Alhaji Abdullahi Abbas, expressed confidence in members of the council to deliver the state to the party in the 2023 elections, citing their track records of performance.
Islamic Cleric Justifies APC Muslim-Muslim Presidential Ticket
An Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ibrahim Daimagoro, has said that there is nothing wrong in the pairing of a Muslim candidate with another Muslim deputy candidate adopted by the All Progressives Congress in its presidential ticket for the 2023 election.
Danmaigoro, while speaking at a prayer session organised in honour of Kwara state governor, AbdulRahaman AbdulRazaq, in Ilorin on Monday cited the recent election of two Christians as governor and deputy governor in Osun State, which he noted as an attestation to the propriety of the Muslim- Muslim presidential ticket of the APC.
Danmaigoro noted that the people of Osun State jettisoned religious sentiments by voting for the Peoples Democratic Party’s Christian-Christian ticket in the governorship election.
“If there is nothing wrong in the people of Osun State voting for the PDP’s Christian-Christian ticket, then there is nothing wrong in Nigerians supporting the presidential candidate of the APC and his running mate, Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu and Senator Kassim Shettima who are both Muslims.
“What should be paramount in the minds of Nigerians is the election of capable hand as the nation’s next president and Tinubu has all it takes to make Nigeria great again,” the cleric said.
Though the event was meant to mark the birthday of a former Commissioner in the Kwara State Independent Electoral Commision, AlhAbdulHameed Sambo, it was turned to a prayer ground for both Governor AbdulRazaq and Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu.
Dignitaries that graced the event included the special Adviser on Strategy to Kwara State governor, Saadu Salahu; a former state lawmaker, Barr. Bamidele Aluko; the chairman of Kwara State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, Dr AbdulKadir Sambaki; APC stalwart, Alh. Baba Adefalu; Brigadier- General Agbabiaka; and a retired permanent secretary in the state, Alhaja Mopelola AbdulRahman; amongst others.
Adeleke Makes First Appointments As Osun Governor
The newly sworn-in Governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke, made his first appointment as he named Rasheed Olawale as his Chief Press Secretary.
Adeleke also approved the appointment of Kazeem Akinleye as his Chief of Staff and Teslim Igbalaye as the Secretary to the State Government.
The appointments, according to the governor, take immediate effect.
Adeleke, who was sworn in on Sunday froze all government accounts and also reversed the state’s name from the State of Osun to Osun State.
The ‘Dancing Senator’ as he is called accused his predecessor Gboyega Oyetola of taking some malicious actions against him including the appointment of permanent secretaries.
Adeleke thus ordered the “immediate freezing of all government accounts in banks and other financial institutions. Immediate establishment of a panel to carry out an inventory and recover all government assets. An immediate establishment of a panel to review all appointments and major decisions of the immediate past administration taken after the 17th of July 2022.
“An immediate reversal to the constitutionally recognised name of our state, Osun State. All government insignia, correspondences, and signages should henceforth reflect Osun State rather than State of Osun which is unknown to the Nigerian constitution.”
Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the governorship election in July floored Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who sought reelection as governor. The PDP candidate won 17 of the 30 local government and was declared winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The APC candidate has since dragged the winner to the election tribunal over alleged electoral malfeasance.
BREAKING: Appeal Court Upholds Bwacha, Binani’s Governorship Candidacy
The Court of Appeal in Yola on Thursday upheld the governorship candidacy of All Progressives Congress candidates, Emmanuel Bwacha and Aisha Binani for Taraba and Adamawa states respectively.
The Appeal Court set aside a ruling by the High Court nullifying their candidacy and ordered that their names be forwarded to the Independent National Electoral Commission as the APC governorship candidates for both states.
