Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State rose to commission the newly built Students’ Union Secretariat for ABSU SUG, as well as the commissioning of a 300-Bed capacity Student Hostel, Material Laboratory Centre of the Faculty of Environmental Studies as well as performing the ground breaking ceremony of Abia State University Guest House.
The Governor, who arrived at the University in a midst of cheering crowds comprising students and residents of the community, was greeted with a loud cheers of “Okezie we know, kota sign, Ikpeazu till 2023, E GO GO AGAIN”.
In addressing the guests and students at the event, the Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu extolled the Professor Uche Ikonne led management of the institution and said his desire to build the SUG Secretariat was to create a conducive environment for the SUG leadership to discharge their duties and relate well with the school management.
The Governor, who commended the school for its commitment to excellence and development, congratulated the students and wished them well.
Speaking earlier, the Vice Chancellor, ABSU, Professor Uche Ikonne said the Governor, who doubles as the Visitor to the university has never relented in showing great love to the institution. According to him, the guests house, when realised would reduce their expenses during accreditations and other events, while the Material Laboratory would assist their students in Environmental Studies to do their practicals.
Contributing, the President of Students’ Union Government, Comrade Chukwunyere Onyenso extolled the Governor for all he is doing for the school, including making himself available to lecture in the school and assisting the SUG in getting her own befitting secretariat.
Touched by the height of gratitude, appreciation and love exhibited by the students of ABSU and management for what the Governor Ikpeazu led government has done for the university, I hereby put a call to all Abians and residents to get their PVCs ready to vote Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu again come 2019 for continuity…
