The Enugu-Ngwo sanitation committee led by comrade Emma Onuiigbo has embarked on a sanitation project to keep the community clean and drainages free-flowing to safeguard water runways in a sustained community effort at maintaining the long stretch of Old Onitsha road that cuts through the community.
Trenches, gutters and culverts are being emptied of debris, sand deposits, sachets and cellophane bags stuck between the pathways that often result in blockage and water spilling onto the tarmac durin heavy downpour.
Speaking with Lodega Media, the president general of the community, pastor Raf Onyedika, stated the project was to sustain the community sanitation and also maintain the work of the state government by keeping the old Onitsha road free from water spillages depositing sand and other materials from gutters and drainages onto the road whenever it rains in torrents.
” We have started the sanitation exercise in Enugu-Ngwo but we also intend to take it down to Enugu metropolis to Odegba to free up all the blocked drainages there as well”, the PG stated.
Speaking further, pastor Onyedika commended the state governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for rehabilitating the Milliken/ Old Anambra road which is now serving as the route to other parts of the country, but reiterated that it is not up to the state government to carry out sanitation on the road and drainages within the communities.
