The first ever Coal City International Marathon event which took place in Enugu today has just ended with Nigeria dominating the event. This would mark the first international marathon a Nigerian would be claiming the top prize and upsetting traditional marathoners from Kenya, Ethiopia and other African countries with strong heritage for the sport.

Participants were drawn from countries with rich heritage in the sposp like Kenya, Ethiopia, Uganda, Zimbabwe, Niger and Cameroon in a 21km half marathon.

A Nigerian, Gideon, from Plateau State finishing in a time of won the competition upsetting traditional heavyweight countries like Kenya and Ethiopia who participated. Although Kenya’s Nancy dominated the female segment of the marathon.
