As the battle for the seat of Enugu East Senatorial District draws nigh, Professor Gab Agu Gab has already made history in being the first Indigenous contestant from the hilly suburb of Enugu-Ngwo. The Law professor looks set to dislodge the incumbent, Senator Gil Nnaji, judging from the mammoth crowd and political figures that graced the official launch of his political ambition in his country home today.
The Community of Enugu-Ngwo denied their political affiliations, religious leanings and ideological differences to rally behind their son and brother, Professor, Ozo, Gab Agu Gab, who launched his Official declaration to contest for the office of the Senate Enugu East Senatorial District.
Professor Gab Agu who becomes the first indigene of Enugu-Ngwo to vie for a Senatorial position in Enugu East was heartily supported by the people of Enugu-Ngwo who came out in large numbers to witness the official launching.
Speaking to lodega.com, Professor Agu promised the people of Enugu East Senatorial District that the Coal industry will be revitalised as a source of energy and resources for the people of Enugu when elected as their Senator.
Speaking further, he stated, ” It is sad that since the collapse of the Coal industry our people have not been compensated for the loss they suffered due to the Coal mine industries and the erosion that was brought to bear on the land and communities.
” This is a situation that the government representing the region has not addressed. Most of the erosion you see in some places in Enugu was a result of the mining activities of the Coal industries”.
The professor also stated that there are lots of untapped mineral resources in Enugu to be harnessed and utilised for the people of Enugu East Senatorial District.
Speaking on education, the Law professor also pledged to support education in the State once elected so that the common man could have a proper education to enhance the literacy level of the people for better political participation and economic choices.
The launch which was well attended by a cross section of different political party representatives in Enugu state and religious leaders, including APC stalwart, G.B Onoh who was former Local Government Chairman Enugu North and first son of former Governor of old Anambra State, late C.C Onoh, and Chairman of All Political Party paltform Enugu State Chapter, Adonis Igwe, the President General Of Enugu-Ngwo Community, Mr John Enwu, the immediate past caretaker Chairman enugE North Local Government, Him John Ese and other community leaders and religious representatives as well as a host of PDP party chieftains sought to unite and mobilise all of the communities in Ngwo in projecting Professor Gab Agu Gab as the Senator for enig East Senatorial District.
