It is either Senator Akpabio’s sense of history is twisted or he has a different perspective to the rest of the world.
One of the darkest moments in human history was World War 2, instigated by Hitler’s Germany, signaled by the attack of neighbouring Poland on September 1, 1939. It brought a permanent change in the world order and geopolitical relations.
Apart from the trans Atlantic slave trade, there may be no other documented article or account of human suffering and loss like World War 2 that began with the attack of Poland. Germany still feels that brunt, shame and embarrassment as she strides to blurt out that history from her national psyche.
Well, not so for Nigeria’s former Senate Minority leader, Godswill Akpabio, who recently defected from the People’s Democratic Party, PDP to the ruling party, All Progressives Congress, APC.
While speaking in Awka Ibom, South of Nigeria, the Senator boasted that the take over by the APC in his home State, Akwa Ibom will be like the invasion of Poland by Germany which signalled the beginning of Ike of the most demanding wars in human history.
It is clear the Senator either lacks better depictive situations to describe his political intensions, or he is disturbingly insensitive to the people of Poland and dismissive of the world’s sensitivity.
By stating that APC will take over Akwa Ibom state like Germany invaded Poland, which was done by guns, and other military gear and coercion, is the Senator trying to intimidate his political opponents with the threat of force and violence? That’s what Germany did in Poland and is dying to have the world forget.
Conducting what he said was his first official function since he formerly defected to the APC in a rally at Ikot-Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State, Akpabio said he chose an uncommon method for his defection because he was an uncommon transformer.
Ill-thought out statements like this from a high ranking politician like Nigeria is injurious to our national image abroad and somehow tell the world our leaders are not abreast with history and world standard of utterances on certain sensitive issues.
This is hoping Senator Godswill Akpabio retracts his insensitive and highly unsuitable language as it depicts APC of putting mechinery to rig the forthcoming elections by force.
