In the letter of apology written by the management of Premium Times for the “false” report credited to one of its journalists and sacking of same journalist, it is mind-blowing to note that the management of Premium Times did admit that it was inThe Nation who first ran the news and report purportedly quoting a leader of Mayetti Allah of claiming the Plateau killings were in retaliation for over 300 cows stolen by the affected community in Plateau.

The question, therefore, begs why The Nation had not issued an apology or retrieved this “fake” news. For Premium Times did acknowledge that its journalist lifted the quote from The Nation reporter who had circulated the news on social media amongst other journalist in a media culture known as pack journalism.

Mind, The Nation had claimed the source of its report was from a phone conversation with Ciroma of Mayetti Allah and have dated to request call logs to be released by the network provider. It is trite to observe too that Ciroma was reported to have stated never to have spoken with the said journalist.
