The whereabouts of Adikwu, one of the masterminds of the Offa Bank Robbery which took scores of lives, including nine policemen, is still shrouded in mystery as he has not been paraded with the other suspects since all the othersuspects were paraded recently. The Offa Bank robbery incident has spiralled into a political snowball involving the Senate President, Bukola Saraki.
The Senate President has been indicted by the Nigeria police for his involvement in the incidence with members of the gang allegedly confessing to getting arms from the Senate President. An allegation that has been responded to by Bukola Saraki.
Adikwu, who was a dismissed police officer was said to be the leader of the armed robbery gang, who allegedly confessed to storming a number of police stations during the robbery to avenge what he termed his unlawful dismissal from the police force.
A Non-Governmental Organisation, NGO, Network on Police Reforms in Nigeria, (NOPRIN) has expressed fear over the safety of two suspects, Adikwu and Kayode, who were arrested over the bloody April 5 2018 Offa robbery but were not paraded alongside other suspects by the police.
At a press conference addressed by its National Coordinator, Okechukwu Nwanguma last Wednesday in Lagos, the organisation therefore called on the police to produce the suspects alive in order to have their day in court, to corroborate or rebut the police narrative that it was the Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki who provided the weapons which were used during the robbery operation.
There’s been a strong suspicion that Adikwu might have been killed in police custody, an allegation which the police have denied, stressing that he is leading the police in investigation and recovering arms said to have been used on the operation.
Members of the Offa Bank robbery gang where transferred to force headquarters, Abuja in a move that some critics see as a way to cajole them.
