A truck with an unknown registration plate number which was conveying a large pack of plywood steered swiftly and spilled its contents down Ojuelegba bridge in Lagos, sending heavy pieces of wood down the bridge onto a stream of on rushing cars beneath the bridge.
The result was multiple accident claiming three lives, injuring two others and involving four other vehicles comprising three commercial Volkswagen buses and a Toyota Corolla.
The truck conveying the plywood didn’t not meet safety standards and did not secure the contents firmly to keep them from spilling out when the driver swerved suddenly. The injured are receiving treatment at sn undisclosed hospital.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) confirmed the number of casualties in the incident, saying two people were killed in the process while the third person died later.
Officials of the Nigeria Police Force, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Red Cross, LRT, LASTMA, and Lagos State Fire Service, among others, took part in the rescue effort.
