President Mohammadu Buhari has forwarded a letter requesting the senate to assent the appointment of Justice Tanko Mohammed as the substantive Chief Justice of Nigeria.
Justice Tanko Mohammed has been on an acting capacity since January 25 when the former Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen was suspended by President Buhari following a recommendation form the Code of conduct bureau.
The President of the Senate, Dr Ahmad Lawan read the letter from Buhari at the plenary on Thursday.
The letter addressed to Lawan is seeking the cooperation of the Senate for the confirmation in line with Section 231 (1) of the 1999 Constitution as amended. The letter also cited Justice Tanko as having been the recommended by the National Judicial Council (NJC).
