The police at force headquarters Abuja have revealed that contrary to widespread rumours making round that the senate President Bukola Saraki was invited for his role in the Offa Bank Robbery, the Senate President was actually invited for allegedly purchasing unapproved weapons for the suspects of the bank robbery.
The police also revealed that fourty eight hours after the bank robbery that resukted in 30 deaths, including pregnant women and police officers, 4 of the gang leaders of the bank robbery accompanied the Senate President in a consolatory visit to the palace of the Olofa of Offa, Oba Muftau Gbadamosi Esuwoye.
They also said it was necessary for the Senate President to explain why he purchased prohibited arms for the suspects, insisting he had a case to answer.
A police source at SARS office abuja further hinted that Saraki was imvoted only to explain his alleged role in the purchase pf arms used in the deadly Offa bank robbery.
According to the source, “it is an offence to purchase prohibited weapons for criminals in whatever guise, be it thuggery or whatever you call it.
“For your information, 48 hours after the Offa armed robbery operation and killings, the four gang leaders of the group that perpetrated the devilish act, accompanied the delegation of the Senate President to visit the Olofa of Offa to console with him over the killings.”
“So from these and other discoveries, there is really the need for the Senate President to explain these links. Nobody is saying otherwise,’’ the source added
The source disclosed that Police investigators during interrogation of the suspects also discovered that one of the gang leaders was putting on the same ankara clothing specially invited guests wore on the day of Bukola Saraki’s daughter’s wedding in Kwara State.
The police had earlier issued a public invitation to Senate President to appear at its headquarters to answer to allegations against him that purportedly linked him to the bank robbery at Offa but within days changed changed its earlier stand by indicating the Senate President need not appear in person at the Force Headquarters but could tender his statement in writing.
Meanwhile, the Vice President, Professor Osinbanjo has recently met with the Inspector General Of Police, DSS boss amd other security apparatus in a close door meeting which many believe is to find a solution over the pending melee between the Senate President and and the Inspector General Of Police.
