Some armed policemen numbering over 20 and in a commando style allegedly invaded the Arogbo community in Ese-Odo Local Government Area of Ondo State on Thursday, shooting into the air.
The community which is the home town of a former Special Adviser to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan on Niger Delta Affairs, Mr. Kingsley Kuku, whose house was reportedly thoroughly searched by the armed policemen.
The invasion by the policemen who are said to be over 20, caused pandemonium among the residents of the town, as many of them ran off in fear from the community during the shooting.
A resident in the compound said the Police told them that they were searching for kidnappers.
He said every room was searched and thoroughly ransacked but nothing was found.
Another resident decried the mannner and needless show of force the police employed in carrying out their operation. ” There was no search warrant and they were shooting sporadically into the air, scaring everyone away.
“This shouldn’t be happening in a democracy'”
In reaction, the Police Public Relations Officer of the state command, Mr. Femi Joseph, who confirmed the incident said, the policemen were from the the Force Headquarters, Abuja,”on lawful mission.”
“The policemen are from the Force Headquarters and they are doing their lawful duties,” Joseph confirmed.
