In a swift move, the Federal Government has changed celebration of Democracy Day usually reserved for May 29th to June 12 the date of when Nigeria’s most credible elections were held but was subsequently annuled by the then military ruler, General Badamosi Babangida.

For now, it’s hard to speculate if the move was as a result of the purported economic loss Nigeria incurred as a result of the proximity of Democracy day and that of Biafra day which is usually slated for  May 30th, or if it’s a strategic election big to appease the South West of their slain hero Mushood Abiola, the winner of the annuled June 12 , 1993 election.
